This Supernatural Story
Steven Soderbergh pushes his creative boundaries in this clever supernatural story captured wholly from the viewpoint of a ghost. After a clan including mother Rebekah and her distressed teen Chloe occupies their recent residence, the camera – AKA the Presence – follows them around. The daughter appears conscious of the supernatural presence, and it seems defensive toward her. Yet what is the reason? It's a fun idea that remains concise, including a revelation that may be unexpected. October 11th, 4.35pm, 10.10pm, the Sky channel

The Black Phone Horror
Derrickson's contained scarefest holds up well despite the lack of a follow-up. Taking place in 1970s Colorado, a series of child abductions has left the youth on edge. After Finney is taken by the kidnapper and imprisoned in a dungeon, he anticipates a terrible outcome. But the disconnected phone in the room keeps ringing, with ghostly voices offering help, and the prophetic visions from his sibling Gwen could save him. A solid creepfest. This Saturday, late evening, on Film4
The Tammy Faye Biopic
In the struggle between faith and wealth, it's a knockout win for Mammon in Showalter's brilliantly over-the-top film adaptation regarding the shamed TV preacher and her criminal husband. Garfield plays the venal Jim, who proclaims initially, claiming divine approval for wealth. He and Tammy Faye commence profiting from the American public's religious faith. It's a riot of poor styling, bad makeup and hypocrisy, however Jessica Chastain manages to present the character in a likable light. Tuesday 14 October, 1.15am, on Film4
