Around 50 automobiles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Officers state they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Officers then found many other marked automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report preliminary tests suggest the liquid was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; investigators are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the event," they added.
City officials said they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have asked to the community for details.
A high-ranking political figure commented the vandalism left him stunned and had to be addressed rapidly.
"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on social media, mentioning the death of nine victims by a assailant aiming at individuals of migrant background in 2020.
